Alcohol Recovery Group 8 years, 2 months ago I read you loud and clear. Why pick up that first one when you know exactly how the results unfold? Insanity, by definition. I got comfort reading your post – can relate so much.
I’m new to this site, just joined today. I’ll participate but have to say, my posts will be brief, concise, and to the point – not trying to win a Pulitzer or anything.
As for my condition today?
I’m kicking myself for a relapse that began a week ago Friday. I started “tapering” after my first 6 pack. The situation became what I expected and worse. Resigned my job, tapering is not working like in the past – sheesh! I just want to get back to where I was last Friday before the thing started.
If my post seems incoherent, could be because of lack of sleep, low blood sugar, dehydration, and maybe some dementia.
Also, I’d like to add that tapering is not the best option for getting through withdrawal, which is especially bad for me because of the “kindling” phenomenon. It is advisable to prevent the unbearable symptoms that first appear, but through my intense study over decades, I’ve made the unmistakable observation that the healing – the recovery process, doesn’t begin until after the last sip of alcohol. The “taper” method only prolongs the inevitable.
I found this site out of a desperate online search for a safe harbor, online, so I don’t have to deal with the personalities at the local AA groups, just the messages. I wanted to add, the local AA groups in my vicinity have all been replaced by NA, which is founded on the same precepts, but still draws a unique group of attendees. I’m old school and my comfort level is very “fragile” which prompted me to seek the online option.
I think the only saving grace for this old case is to clean myself up and focus on helping others deal with this diabolical disease.
Thanks for reading
